Agent Installation Guide

The TrackUA agent runs silently on employee computers and reports activity data to your dashboard.
Choose your role below to see the steps that apply to you.

Admin Installation Path

Before you begin — make sure you have:
  • An active TrackUA admin account (sign up here if you don't have one)
  • Physical or remote access to the employee's Windows computer
  • The employee's full name and work email address
1

Add the employee to your dashboard

Log in to your TrackUA admin dashboard. Navigate to Employees and click Add Employee. Enter the employee's full name and work email, then save.

Want to monitor your own computer? Create an employee record using your own name and email. You'll act as both admin and employee — your machine will be tracked like any other.
2

Generate the setup code

Find the employee in your dashboard and click the Install button on their card. TrackUA generates a unique, single-use setup code tied to that employee. Copy it — you'll need it during installation.

Codes expire after 48 hours. If yours expires, click Regenerate Code in the same panel to get a fresh one. Generating a new code automatically invalidates the previous one.
3

Get the installer onto the employee's computer

Download trackua.exe and transfer it to the target machine via USB drive, shared network folder, or remote desktop — whichever method is easiest for you.

Download trackua.exe
4

Run the installer & enter the setup code

Double-click trackua.exe on the employee's computer. When the installer asks how you'd like to verify, choose "I have a setup code from my company admin" and paste the code from Step 2.

The installer authenticates silently — the employee does not need to be present and will not receive any email.

5

You're done!

The agent installs and starts automatically. Within a few minutes, activity data for that employee will appear in your dashboard. The agent runs silently in the background — no further action required from anyone.

One code = one employee. Never reuse a setup code across multiple computers or employees. Each employee needs their own code generated from their own record.

Employee Self-Installation Path

Before you begin — make sure:
  • Your company admin has already added you to the TrackUA dashboard (ask them if you're unsure)
  • You have the trackua.exe installer file (your admin should provide this)
  • You know the work email address your admin used when adding you
1

Confirm your admin has added you

You cannot register on your own. Your company admin must first create your employee profile in the TrackUA dashboard using your work email. If you haven't been told you're set up, check with your admin before proceeding.

2

Get the installer

Your admin may share the file directly, or you can download it yourself using the button below.

Download trackua.exe
3

Run the installer & enter your work email

Double-click trackua.exe on your computer. On the verification screen, select "Enter my work email" and type the exact same email address your admin used when adding you. Then click Continue.

4

Check your email for a verification code

TrackUA sends a one-time verification code to your work email. Open the email, copy the code, and paste it into the installer to confirm your identity.

Code not arriving? Check your spam or junk folder first. If it's still not there, ask your admin to generate a setup code from the dashboard instead — you can enter that code directly in the installer, skipping the email step.
5

You're all set!

After verification, the agent installs and starts running automatically. A system-tray icon confirms the agent is active. Your activity data will appear in your company's dashboard within a few minutes.

What you don't need: No password, no TrackUA account, and no browser login. Your work email is only used to match you to your employee profile during installation.

Uninstall Guide

Important: Uninstalling TrackUA requires a one-time code from the company admin. Employees cannot uninstall on their own without this code. Activity data already collected will remain in the admin dashboard.
1

Admin generates an uninstall code

The company admin opens the TrackUA dashboard, finds the employee, clicks Setup Agent, then switches to the Uninstall Agent tab. A unique 8-character uninstall code is generated automatically.

Codes expire after 48 hours and are single-use. If it expires, the admin can generate a new one from the same panel.
2

Download the uninstaller

The admin (or employee) downloads trackua_uninstall.exe and transfers it to the employee's computer.

Download trackua_uninstall.exe
3

Admin shares the uninstall code

The admin sends the uninstall code to the employee via any method they prefer — email, chat, phone, or in person. There is no automated email for this step.

4

Run the uninstaller and enter the code

The employee runs trackua_uninstall.exe on their computer. When prompted, they enter the uninstall code. The uninstaller verifies the code with the TrackUA server before proceeding.

5

Uninstallation complete

Once verified, the uninstaller removes all TrackUA files, processes, scheduled tasks, and startup entries from the computer. The process is fully automated — no manual cleanup required.

What gets removed: All TrackUA processes, scheduled tasks, startup entries, and the installation folder. Activity data in the admin dashboard is not affected — historical records are preserved.

Which installation method should I use?

Both methods produce the same result. The difference is who performs the installation.

Method Best when… Employee involvement
Admin installs You have physical or remote access to the employee's computer and want a silent, hands-off rollout None — fully handled by admin
Employee self-installs Employees are remote or distributed and can handle their own setup Runs installer, enters email, enters verification code

Windows security warning during installation?

Because trackua.exe is a new application not yet widely distributed, Windows Defender and SmartScreen may flag it during download or launch. This is expected behaviour for any newly published executable — it does not indicate a virus. Follow the steps below based on what you see.

🛡️ "Windows protected your PC" — SmartScreen popup

A blue popup appears when you double-click the installer. This is Windows SmartScreen — it appears for any executable that hasn't built up a large download history yet.

  1. On the blue popup, click More info (small link near the bottom of the message).
  2. A Run anyway button will appear — click it.
  3. The installer will launch normally.
🌐 Browser blocks the download (Chrome / Edge)

Your browser may warn that the file "isn't commonly downloaded" or could be harmful.

Chrome:

  1. Click the Downloads icon (⬇) in the top-right corner.
  2. Click the three-dot menu next to the file → KeepKeep anyway.

Edge:

  1. Click … More next to the flagged download.
  2. Select KeepShow moreKeep anyway.
🔒 Windows Defender removed or quarantined the file

If Defender automatically deleted the file before you could run it, restore it from Protection History.

  1. Open Windows Security (search for it in the Start menu).
  2. Go to Virus & threat protection → Protection history.
  3. Find the blocked trackua.exe entry and click it.
  4. Click Restore — the file will return to its original location.
  5. Run the installer as described above.
🔧 Managed by IT policy — Defender exclusion (optional)

If you are rolling out to multiple machines, adding a Defender exclusion for the install folder avoids repeated warnings.

  1. Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Manage settings.
  2. Scroll to Exclusions and click Add or remove exclusions.
  3. Click + Add an exclusion → Folder and select the folder containing trackua.exe.
Note: Exclusions require administrator rights on the machine. In a domain environment, this can be pushed via Group Policy.
